The percentage of DSLR camera shipments compared to last year is highest in Japan in the first half of 2008

CIPA's statistics did a good job in summarizing domestic exports and shipments at 14 companies in Japan including Japanese manufacturers and also including Eastman Kodak Co's Japanese unit. According to the study and review, exports of digital cameras grew over 35% Year over Year on a volume basis and increased 19.8% on a dollar basis in the first half of 2008 when compared to 2007.

Compare that to DSLR Cameras. As for these shipments grew almost 37% YoY in Japan, outperforming the 19.1% YoY growth experienced in shipments to oversee European markets and the 18% Year over year growth in shipments to North American end user markets. Limited to the first half of 2008, domestic Digital SLR camera shipments accounted for 12%, which is by far the largest ratio of SLR camera shipments.
